Relief!!

We went and saw the perinatologist today, and what a huge RELIEF! Not only was she fantastic at how she dealt with us, she helped to assure us that our baby was "boring" to her, but in all great ways Normal! The condition in question was if our baby had vasa previa, a rare but almost completely fatal situation if not caught early. Due to some crazy thickening in one area of my uterus, and the baby's very long umbilical cord, it was a tricky picture, but the perinatalogist was able to view completely everything she needed to. The placenta is not covering the cervix. The umbilical cord inserts right into it, and does not cross the cervix. We could not have had more chills to hear that news. Nothing is more terrifying than thinking one false move could cause your baby to bleed to death and you would probably not know it for a while. The crazy things that go through your mind when you are forced to wait for 2 days before getting answers. My doctor's office was also concerned about a possibility of amniotic banding. I have this area that appears to be separated off from the rest of the amniotic sac. The perinatologist did confirm the area, but called it an amniotic sheet instead. She said she does not know how or why it is caused, but in no way is it affecting our baby. It is at it's feet, with no interuption to the baby other than taking up a little of its space. We will gladly take the great news and get a good night's sleep tonight. We were able to see some awesome shots of the baby's hands, feet, face (with its little mouth opening and closing), a big thumbs up from baby, and a whole slew of other cool features we have never seen in an ultrasound before. It was great! What a blessing and a miracle. We are so grateful!
